The Early Years
Rototherm was established in Dublin in 1948 by Len and Patricia Edwards, Len having been a Director of the family owned sister company, The British Rototherm Co. Ltd, in London.
The company was founded to manufacture bi-metallic thermometers for process industries in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Over the years we were regular suppliers to the ESB, Bord na Mona, Guinness, Pfizer and Irish Distillers to name but a few and at its height the company employed up to 50 people.
Alastair Clotworthy, late husband of current M.D. Maria Kenaney, joined Rototherm at age 18 having completed Engineering Studies in Bolton Street Engineering School. He became Production Manager working under Len until Len died in 1966, after which he ran Rototherm until Patricia died in 1980. He acquired shares in the company during this time.
In 1980 Maria Kenaney joined as Finance Director having previously worked in the finance industry. In 1988 Maria & Alastair purchased the remaining shares of Rototherm Limited. By that time the company had added the manufacture of pressure gauges and oven thermometers for Original Equipment Suppliers e.g. Aga-Rayburn and Waterford Stanley to the range of process thermometers.
On Alastair’s death in 1991 Maria took over the running of the company. Under Maria’s direction the company continued its manufacturing operations whilst also expanding it’s product and service range to include digital thermometry, data loggers and calibration.
In 2006 the company moved from its premises in Pearse Street to its current premises in Baldonnell and undertook a strategic review of the business. This review resulted in the closure of the manufacturing activities and the decision to focus instead on developing our expertise in guiding customers to the correct solution for their temperature based application.
Rototherm Today
As part of this exercise the company reviewed and updated its branding and adopted “the temperature experts” tag line which has been the cornerstone of our ethos ever since. We strive to achieve this by putting ourselves in the customer’s shoes and aiming to ensure that the solution which we offer is the best for their business requirement.
Our aim is to achieve excellence as our standard by providing the highest level of service whilst maintaining competitive pricing.
Our training for the development of our expertise in guiding customers on solutions to their temperature requirements has included training in the requirements of the relevant Regulatory Authorities and best industry practice. This has resulted in an increase in our involvement in the Temperature Monitoring , Temperature Mapping and Validation elements of our business with particular emphasis on customers requiring these services for regulatory compliance. In February 2012 we underpinned this focus by appointing a Senior Quality & Validation Manager. This appointment ensures that we can continue to support our customers in the increasingly complex regulatory environments in which they operate.
